Invited Speaker: Federica Pascucci
Title: "Exploiting system model for securing Cyber-Physical Systems"
Abstract: The interaction among networking, sensing, and control typical of
Cyber-Physical Systems results in a variety of new devices used in many sectors
such as health, energy distribution, or transportation. The on-going tendency
of exploiting automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies leads
to the Industry 4.0. The fourth industrial revolution deals with Cyber-Physical
Systems, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and cognitive computing
converging towards the Industrial Internet of Things. To be successful, this
new era requires innovative paradigms to ensure the security of provided
services and connected systems. In the industrial field, the problem gets more
complex due to the need of protecting a large attack surface while guaranteeing
the availability of the systems and the real-time response to the presence of
threats. Considering attacks of increasing complexity, it is important to
evaluate more sophisticated defence strategies. Control Theory has contributed
exploiting frameworks to handle model uncertainties and disturbances as well as
fault diagnosis and mitigation to identify also cyber-attacks. In this talk, we
perform an analysis of the existing industrial threats and we present intrusion
detection methodology based on system modelling.
Short-bio: Federica Pascucci received the "Laurea" degree in Computer Science from the
University of "Roma Tre" and the PhD in Systems Engineering from the University
of Rome "La Sapienza" in 2000 and 2004 respectively. She is with the Department
of Engineering of the University of "Roma Tre", where she is an Assistant
Professor since 2005. She was visiting student at the Centre for Applied
Autonomous Sensor Systems at Örebro University (2003) and visiting professor at
KIOS Research Center at University of Cyprus (2013-2014). Her research
interests include modelling and localisation of wheeled and flying robot; human
robot interactions; wireless sensor networks; indoor localisation; railway
control; physical and cyber fault diagnosis; industrial control systems;
critical infrastructure protection. She has published more than 80 journal and
conference papers and book chapters, receiving several best conference paper
awards. With the MCIPLab group, she was the principal investigator in three
European research project (ECHORD, REFIRE, RISING) and in many national
projects (RAMPS, SmartEnvironments).
