Invited Speaker: Edmundo Madeira

Title: " An adaptive network slicing for LTE Radio Access Networks"

Abstract: 

5G mobile systems are envisioned to satisfy the service requirements from a diversity of vertical industries. Network Slicing, which is a promising technology to be integrated into 5G systems, enables multiple virtual  networks, with functionalities specific to a service or customer, to be created on top of a physical substrate. The consolidation of multiple technologies, such as SDN and NFV, provides all the elasticity, programmability and modularity necessary to manage network slices. In this talk, I will present a Slice Optimizer component as an extension to LTE's evolved NodeB to realize the concept of network slicing on LTE Radio Access Networks. Two scenarios will be commented: a) with different slices for different classes of traffic; b) a multi-tenant network, where two network operators share the same network infrastructure.

 

Short-bio:

Edmundo R. M. Madeira received the PhD degree in electrical engineering from University of Campinas (UNICAMP), in 1991. He is a full professor with the Institute of Computing at University of Campinas, Brazil. He has published more than 150 papers in national and international conferences and journals. He was the general chair of the 7th Latin American Network Operation and Management Symposium (LANOMS'11) and a TPC co-chair of the 15th IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM 2017). He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Network and Systems Management (JNSM), Springer. His research interests include network management, future Internet, and cloud computing.
