Title: "Enhancing design for elderly home healthcare applications"
Abstract: The growth in population among the elderly in many countries, has made it necessary to give new thought to the kind of supporting technological design methods that can find the solutions that are suited to this section of the public. Citizens from the third age can be characterized by their wide diversity and the fact that they have had multiple experiences stretching over several decades. In addition, this diversity is heightened by the sharp differences found in their levels of schooling, experience in technology, motivation, cognitive qualifications and physical skills. The application of Health Smart Homes by means of the technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT), can be used to support rehabilitation treatment and help the elderly to understand the importance of taking measures to maintain a healthy standard of living that can meet their needs. Although there has been an increasing rise in the importance and use of these computational systems, the literature has failed to establish a particular methodology that can be employed when creating this kind of application. Our presentation will show a collaborative approach based on Design Thinking, Personas, and Organizational Semiotics. Our research aims to contribute to the design of IoT based Home Care solutions, by taking into consideration the wishes and needs of the elderly in an iterative, creative and participative way.
Short-bio: PhD in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics (2016) from the University of São Paulo (USP). Master in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics (2012) from the USP. BSc degree in Computer Science (2009) and Licentiate degree in Mathematics (2009). From 2016 to 2017 was a Postdoctorate Researcher Fellow at School of Medicine of USP and UNIFACCAMP, as a CAPES Fellowship. He was Visiting Researcher at the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA (2014–2015). Currently, Vinícius P. Gonçalves is an Adjunct Professor at University of Brasília (UnB), Brasília, Brazil.
