The University of Coimbra offers 4 research grants to work on Project “iCIS-Intelligent Computing in the Internet of Services”, with the following characteristics:

WP1 – Internet of Things and Services:
• Future internet;
• Cloud computing, internet of services and advanced S/W engineering;
• Internet of things;
• Trustworthy internet;
• Networked media.
WP2 – Intelligent Algorithms & Knowledge Extraction:
• Intelligent algorithms for diseases diagnosis and prediction;
• Knowledge extraction for clinical data interpretation and decision support;
• Intelligent algorithms for planning and management of mobility;
• Intelligent methods for accessibility and extraction of Internet information;
• Extraction of knowledge from high volumes of data produced dynamically.
Financial support: QREN, + Centro e FCT.
Applicant profile: Masters in Computer Science or Informatics Engineering or equivalent; Masters in Design and Multimedia or equivalent; Masters in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent; Masters in Mathematics or equivalent; Masters in Economics or Social Sciences or Equivalent.
Location: FCTUC-DEI
Duration: 10 months
Renewal: Eventually Renewable.
Scientific Orientation: Professor Edmundo Heitor da Silva Monteiro e Professor Jorge Manuel Oliveira Henriques.
Financial conditions: The amount of the scholarship is 980,00€, paid monthly at the end of the month by bank transfer. This amount is increased by the voluntary social security corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate elects this possibility, as well as personal accidents insurance. The value of the grant will not increase over the whole period of its duration.
Regime: The attribution of the scholarship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and attributed to the Scholar within the Scholar Statute of the University of Coimbra, based on the Regulation of Research Grants of the University of Coimbra.
Selection methods: Curricular Evaluation (60%) and Interview (40%) to the 4 top candidates on curricular evaluation.
Selection and attribution criteria: Curricular Evaluation: Analysis of the applicant’s curriculum vitae (45%); Motivation letter (15%).
Formalization of application: Curriculum Vitae with Academic transcript of Records, Certificate of MsC conclusion, Motivation letter (should clearly identify the workpackage and task(s) were they wish to perform research in the context of a PhD program in one of the iCIS partner, i.e., CISUC, INESC-C, DEEC-UC and IPN) + Other elements considered relevant (e.g., scientific papers published).

Deadline to submit applications: Between 27/06/2014 and 10/07/2014.
Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 30 days after the deadline for submission of applications, by sending communications to applicants via email. After the release of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to. If they wish to do so they can comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidate will have to declare in writing his acceptance and communicate the effective date of the beginning of the scholarship. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
