Parallel Computation Workshop

Unified Parallel C (UPC) is an extension of the C programming language designed for high performance computing on large-scale parallel machines. The language provides a uniform programming model for both shared and distributed memory hardware. (

The PRACE project is an initiative to enable high impact scientific discovery and engineering research and development across all disciplines in order to enhance European competitiveness. (

PRACE will organize a 1-day Course on Unified Parallel C, in Coimbra (Portugal), on Thursday, October 4, 2012. The course will take place at the Physics Department of the University of Coimbra, and will be taught by Montse Farreras (Barcelona Supercomputing Centre).

The course program will be:

11:00 Overview of the PGAS programming model
11:15 Programming in Unified Parallel C - Introduction
12:30 Lunch break
14h30 Hands-On session
16h30 Scalability and performance considerations
17h15 Conclusions
