Quantum Computing Seminar

DEI will be hosting a seminar on Quantum Computing. We will have presentations from two Technion (Israel) researchers, Tal Mor and Rotem Liss.

If you are interested in computer and network security, cryptography, or you are just curious about quantum computing, don't miss this opportunity to learn about it.

Title: "Quantum computers - is the future here?"

Abstract: "More than thirty years ago Feynman and Deutsch came up with the quantum computer. A decade later Peter Shor had shown the incredible power of quantum computers - for example, their ability to factorize large numbers, an ability whose technological consequences for the world of internet encryption and banking can be devastating.

Tal Mor holds a PhD from the Physics Dept. Technion (Israel), postdoctorate positions at the Univ. of Montreal and UCLA. Since 2001 he is a professor at the Technion (CS Dept). Among his contributions to the field of quantum information are: non locality without entanglement, the photon number splitting attack on quantum cryptography, and algorithmic cooling.

Title: "Quantum Key Distribution: Protocols and Security"

Abstract: "The features of quantum mechanics make it possible to securely distribute secret keys, even when the attacker has an unlimited power. In this talk we present the main ideas of Quantum Key Distribution protocols, and especially of the first protocol (suggested by Bennett and Brassard from 1984, and named BB84), and we discuss their security. We will also briefly present our work on developing new protocols and analyzing their security.

Rotem Liss is a Ph.D. student at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, at the group of Prof. Tal Mor. His main research interests are quantum information and quantum communication.
