Method and apparatus for QoS resource reservation and configuration of multicast network resources

Abstract
The next generation networks are envisioned to provide real-time Quality of Service (QoS) aware multi-user communication services, such as IPTV, radio, file distribution and push media, where the content can be distributed simultaneously to groups of users, independent of the connectivity control schemes supported inside or between networks along the distribution path. For supporting the next generation applications, a network must be efficiently provisioned and implement resource control solutions to optimize the system scalability.The Advanced QoS Resource AlloCation (ASAC) approach over-provision QoS resources on class-based networks with heterogeneous connectivity schemes, in order to save the network resources by avoiding per-flow signalling and operations. ASAC actively manages the network resources without explicit request, where the resources are re-adjusted automatically when required. The system performance is optimized by pushing the complex resource control operations to the border routers, leaving the core routers simple.
