A Simulator Engine for IPv6 over ATM Networks
Authors
Abstract
Simulation tools for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) over Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) environments can be useful in the global understanding of the joint deployment of these promising technologies, at various management levels: quality of service management, multicast routing, network design and capacity planning. This paper presents a simulator engine whose main objective is the study of IPv6 over ATM. The engine module is part of the SIANET simulator, a C++ program developed in the scope of a research project named MEDIA ' MARS Extensions Developed for IPv6 over ATM. This project intends to propose and study new extensions to the Multicast Address Resolution Server (MARS) model in Classical IP (CLIP) environments, that take full
advantage of IPv6 properties and ATM capabilities.
Other modules can complement the simulator engine, in order to allow the evaluation of specific IPv6 over ATM properties.
