VISRED II - Introducing Metaheuristics in Multidimensional Scaling. Industrial Conference on Data Mining

Abstract

Multidimensional scaling, as a data mining tool, becomes a high dimensional optimization problem suffering from the known local minima difficulties. Metaheuristics from Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing are here proposed to improve the performance of the technique. VISREDII, a GNU free software platform, has been developed to allow the data miner to easily apply these techniques and getting fast solutions to complex high-dimensional problems. Application to a refinery and to cancer diagnosis is considered.
