Using a Content Distribution Network for Data Distribution in Desktop Grid Computing Platforms
Authors
Abstract
In this paper, we discuss how a Content Distribution Network (CDN) can be applied to Desktop Grid computing environments, particularly to the BOINC platform. When using multiple data servers, BOINC's current data distribution mechanisms are rudimentary and do not take into account server load and availability. We propose the use of a customCDNthat applies client redirection, health monitoring and content distribution techniques. A more efficient distribution ofrequests would improve data transfers, making it possible to explore applications with larger data sets.
