Portuguese Consortium for Online Experimentation
Authors
Abstract
Online experimentation provides novel and valuable tools for use in academy, in industry and in medical areas. When integrated with learning management systems (LMS) these tools can be used to facilitate and to increase the efficiency of recruiting new engineering professionals in enterprise organizations. It has also become a precious tool for educational and training purposes. Looking at online experimentation as a pure distance learning tool it represents a very efficient way of sharing hands-on capabilities, for example with developing countries. In the medical area it already became intensively used mainly for training junior doctors and new surgeons, and even for distance guided telesurgery. And, last but not the least, it is also a promising tool for research activities by allowing the access to very sophisticated equipments. In Portugal a new consortium of online experimentation was created for fostering the national potential. This paper includes an overview of the consortium and some application examples of Portuguese online labs.
