Using a generic poetry generation system to produce song lyrics with sentiment

Abstract

Song lyrics are a kind of poetry that aims to be sung. Having this in mind, we used PoeTryMe, a generic poetry generation platform, to produce song lyrics in Portuguese, based on the line structure of the original lyrics. Besides producing semantically coherent sentences and exhibiting important features such as rhymes, generated lyrics aim at transmitting a predefined sentiment, which is done by selecting related words with the target polarity.
