Approaches and Perspectives on Assessment of Information and Media Literacy Related to Formal Education
Authors
Abstract
This article gives a short overview of national and international discourses on media and information literacy, and states that approaches for the assessment of media literacy mostly miss in including the knowledge dimension. To address this gap, results are presented here from the application of a scale for the assessment of digital media knowledge. Developed in Germany and translated to Portuguese, the scale was used to conduct a small study in Brazilian schools. The example of the concluded study is afterwards reflected upon with a view to the international discussion on the assessment of (digital) media literacy.
