Abstract

The thesis demonstrates how new insights in patterns of moral behaviour of past populations can be obtained by detailed analysis of life stories and network of inter personal relations. The detailed analysis is supported by a specialized information system capable of gathering information scattered among various and heterogeneous historical sources, handling the complexity of record linking of personal information through Artifical Inteligence techniques and providing a navigational interface to a large databse of personal information. The results demonstrate the high level of explanatory power obtained when hundreds of thousands of biographic fragments are consolidated in detailed biographies.
