Is fuzzy control the best first course in control theory?

Abstract

By its growing importance for the human development, control theory needs the enthusiastic contribution of young researchers. However, the way it is teached in Universities in most cases is not appealing, and in many countries it is more and more difficult to attract young bright students to research in the field. It is the first university course on control that fixes the attraction level of the discipline. It is stated here that Fuzzy Logic can be used to face control as a challenging game well adapted to the way of thinking of young generations, and as such Fuzzy Control should be the first course. Some experience is reported about this practice.
