Abstract

The aim of this proposal is to test the fusion between television opening titles production and computational design, embodied in an exercise of creating variations in a title sequence's series through computational processes. Programs that create these variations in the opening title common to a television series will also be developed, from specific characteristics of each episode. Thus a collection of titles will be produced, with the same structure but adapted to each episode, so all different and unique but with a common basis.

A theoretical basis to study the creation of opening titles and analysis of its function, history, techniques' evolution, variety of approaches and its environment in the respective movies will be initially established. Finally, the study will focus on the television series' titles and its variation — or lack thereof — between seasons and episodes. Alongside will also be studied computational design, including its processes and applications in various areas of design, finally focusing on its application to motion graphics.
