IPv6 in Wireless Sensor Networks, a New Challenge
Authors
Abstract
A new type of networks is emerging ' Wireless Sensor Networks. In these networks the important characteristics are the power consumption, the low memory and the reduced micro-controller frequency cycle. These networks will offer enormous applicability, starting in habitat monitoring, medical care, military surveillance or traffic control. Such potential cannot operate in complete isolation; instead, it needs to be linked with the Internet, using IP functionalities. As any technology belonging to 4th generation, the IP will be the solution to this integration. This paper evaluates the benefits of the IPv6 integration with Wireless Sensor Networks, and tries to balance the advantages and drawbacks of such integration.
