Abstract
A large amount of descriptive information about places is widely spread on the web, provided by services such as commercial di- rectories or social networks in a crowd sourced way, which can lead us to classify a particular location based on the atomic entities comprised on it: points of interest. However, different services provide different types of information and currently there is no easy way to unify this kind of data to get more descriptive information than the classic place repre- sentation: a pair of coordinates and a name. In this article, we present a platform which is able to semantically enrich places. This can be achieved by integrating multiple data sources and extracting meaningful terms to automatically label places applying Natural Language Processing and Information Extraction techniques on contents fetched from the web, being such terms validated on knowledge bases like Wikipedia or Wik- tionary. The approach focus the Portuguese language, aiming to be part of a semantic data gateway for TICE.Mobilidade, a mobility platform. Keywords
